The Substance

The Substance (dir. Coralie Fargeat) is a disturbing body horror about toxic beauty standards and aging. A story of self-destruction and all-consuming female rage. This movie managed to produce such a such a visceral reaction in me. There were times I wanted to cry, or vomit, or both. That’s what happens when horror is directed by women and about women – what can possibly surpass the horrors of existence in a female body?
